About the Role

A leading independent UK energy supplier is looking to hire a Senior Financial Accountant to join its finance team. This is a high-profile role reporting directly to the Legal Entity Controller, with responsibility for statutory reporting, audit management and key stakeholder engagement including direct interaction with the shareholders.

This role will have responsibility for delivering timely and accurate statutory reporting, including month-end and quarter-end close activities and external regulatory requirements. The role involves ownership of financial statement preparation and review, ensuring full compliance with IFRS and all relevant reporting requirements, supported by robust analytical review. You will lead the external audit process as the primary point of contact, manage relationships with auditors and the key stakeholder, and ensure timely delivery of information. In addition, you will monitor the financial performance and position of group entities, and present financial insights to senior stakeholders, including involvement in impairment assessments and balance sheet attestations. The position also includes overseeing quarterly dividend processes, preparing materials for Board meetings, and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and group policies, while proactively identifying and resolving potential financial reporting issues.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a proactive and forward thinking individual who can operate independently, bring energy and new ideas and contribute to the ongoing efficiency of the business. You will ideally have an audit background, be ACA/ACCA qualified with at least three years’ post-qualified experience and a strong grounding in technical accounting and financial reporting. You will be a confident communicator, comfortable engaging with both internal and external stakeholders, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. A high level of attention to detail, strong numerical and organisational skills, and a problem-solving mindset are essential, along with the ability to challenge existing processes and drive improvements. Previous experience in financial services or the energy sector would be advantageous but is not essential. This is a visible position requiring a proactive and forward-thinking individual who can operate independently, bring energy and new ideas, and contribute to the ongoing efficiency of the finance function.
